Buellton, California

Buellton is a small town located at the intersection of HWY 101 and State Hwy 246. It is the original home of Pea Soup Andersen's, which opened in 1924 to provide food and lodging for travelers along HWY 101 between San Francisco and Los Angeles. In those days that was a two day trip and Buellton offered a welcome break from driving the old two lane road. The split pea soup is actually quite good and very satisfying. If you are in town, it is definitely worth a try.

Buellton has a population of 5,000 and grew up along old 101 which now parallels the freeway and is called Avenue of the Flags. Along the avenue you will see a great many American flags and memorials to those who have fought for our country. Just outside of town there is Nojoqui Falls Park, with a 100 foot waterfall active in the winter months. Nearby are several apple orchards and berry farms where you can pick your own.
